Syllabus & Course Outline
Mind Mapping as an Accelerated Learning Strategy
This workshop teaches participants the basics of mind mapping using a variety of interactive, hands-on exercises. Other elements of Accelerated Learning methods are incorporated, such as Brain Gym exercises and the use of classical and culturally appropriate music, designed to help students focus on assignments, improve memory and comprehension.
Workshop objectives:
- To teach Mind Mapping as a more powerful and brain friendly way of taking notes
- How to use Mind Maps to accelerate learning, increase comprehension and retention
- Learn to use Mind Maps on a variety of materials
- This workshop demonstrates how using Mind Maps activates the “whole brain” for improved learning and results
- Teach students to be active, purposeful and questioning as life-long learners
Workshop Outline:
- Overview of the multiple intelligences; the three primary learning styles; overview of right and left brain activities; and the four powers of greatness, (all displayed in large Mind Maps) and how this skill activates all of these elements
- Exercise 1: Handouts with opening Mind Mapping exercises including associations and the bloom
- Exercise 2: Listening as a skill: how to create a mind map during a lecture (handout included)
- Exercise 3: Create a Mind Map from curricular materials (History, English, Economics, Biology)
- Mind Mapping as an activation method: How to create a Mind Map in tandem with reading to capture the main points
Materials: All materials are supplied by the instructor.
Participation: To gain the intended benefits, full participation in all exercises, a positive attitude and open mind are required.
Workshop Format: This course is typically delivered as a full day workshop for either students or staff development. The mini workshop format can be condensed down to a one hour or 90 minute presentation and provides limited elements of the expanded course.
CEUs: This course is approved by the Georgia Department of
