Mind Probing (The Socratic Method of Inquiry)

As an Accelerated Learning Strategy

 

This one day course consists of powerful interactive exercises designed to help students learn to pose the “right questions” in order to “discover the answers” to most any question.

 

Course Objectives:

1)      Understand how to activate learning through effective questioning

2)      Invoke the right questions by asking more questions

3)      Accelerate learning and increase comprehension and retention

4)      Illustrate the power of story, metaphor and questions in learning activities

 

Course Outline:

  • Introduction to Socrates and the Art of Inquiry
  • Who are you, and what do you want?
  • How to formulate questions: Who, what, when, why, where, how
  • Different types of questions: Diagnostic questions, information-seeking questions, challenging questions, action questions, questions on priority and sequence, prediction questions, hypothetical questions, questions of extension, questions of generalization
  • Question your beliefs and sources
  • Aim to ask questions that have not been asked before
  • List your 100 most important questions
  • Brief introduction to Brain Gym and Classical Music
  • Questioning mistakes and adversity
  • The Never Ending Question Game

 

Course Materials:

Handouts and course materials will be supplied by instructor.

 

Students are required to participate in all exercises, to maintain a positive and open minded attitude during the course.
